What we doWe fight rural Indian poverty. This poverty cannot be combated by small organizations stranded within village India with no affective access to business or government. Equally, rural Indian poverty cannot be combated by large organizations stranded in the boardrooms and ministries of major cities with no real knowledge of the poor. That’s why our efforts are a special combination of rural development field work, professional trainings, research and consultancies, and awareness-spreading events. The word ‘partnerships’ is often misused by those in the development field to explain brief, imbalanced relationships between NGOs, government and business. We create real and effective poverty-tackling partnerships through our work. Schumacher Centre publishes The Burning Issue blog. The Burning Issue is India’s first web magazine that focuses solely on the interlinked subjects of development and climate change. To visit the blog, click on the relevant section of the top menu. Schumacher Centre also releases a range of publications on the issue of rural Indian poverty. These have included books written by our Chairman and Director. Booklets and transcripts of debates are also released under our 'occasional papers' series. For further details please click on 'field projects,' ' resource centre' and 'events'.
